Powell and Wagner Associates has served New England families with school related concerns for over thirty five years. Powell & Wagner's success is a direct result of our commitment to go beyond the presentation of profile scores to help answer the question, "What is best for your child?"
General Evaluation Parents typically come to us when they are concerned about their child's school performance, emotional stability, socialization skills or overall well being. Powell & Wagner Associates utilizes an extensive selection of state-of-the-art intellectual, academic, career interest, neuropsychological and personality tests to evaluate cognitive, emotional and social growth. These tools allow us to develop an accurate reading of each child's strengths, weaknesses and growth areas.
Our team is frequently asked to help in the diagnosis of learning difficulties, attention deficits and emotional problems. We often make specific treatment recommendations and give advice to parents, students and schools based on our evaluation outcomes.
We are often called upon as a second opinion after a previous, sometimes less comprehensive, evaluation. As we develop an in-depth understanding of the child, we are able to help parents become a more potent advocate for their child -- and help parents as they strive to make the best decisions for their child's well being.
Educational Institution
Selection Our assessments are also used by parents seeking guidance in the selection of a suitable secondary school, college or vocational school. We can help match elementary and secondary school-aged students with private schools that are most likely to provide a positive experience. Our professional relationships with a network of educators can also help bridge the placement process.
Decisions for older children, such as which college, major or career to pursue, can also be guided by our thorough evaluations.
Testing Process for
Children Powell & Wagner's youth-focused services include personal interviews and a review of school transcripts, medical reports and records from other professionals involved with the child. We work with parents to determine the most effective testing for the child. A two-day test battery typically measures:
§ Intellectual Functioning
§ Academic Ability
§ Academic Achievement
§ Personality
§ Emotional Functioning
Our goal is to obtain the fullest possible understanding of the child so we can make useful recommendations that will have a positive impact on the child's long-term development.
Many Powell & Wagner clients maintain a relationship with our practice for several years, using our experts as a sounding board at critical junctures in the child's life - from early school years to adolescence to college and beyond.
Powell & Wagner's psychological consulting expertise can be a valuable support for adults choosing a career path, facing mid-life crisis, career transition or other personal challenges.
A Comprehensive
Approach Whether it's a desire to improve communication skills, help in addressing a family matter or issues relating to everyday functioning success. We believe in taking the time to get to the core of the issue and developing an effective plan of improvement.
Our outstanding team of psychologists is trained to begin where others leave off - addressing dilemmas of choice or conflicting advice. We apply our expertise, testing and genuine concern for our clients' well being while maintaining an unbiased and non-intimidating approach.
Assessment Philosophy We have pioneered a number of innovative techniques for consultation and assessment. Typically a client meets with a psychologist for an initial consultation followed by approximately two days of testing. This allows us to gain a comprehensive understanding of the client's aptitudes, areas of strength and weakness, academic or career interests and personality/emotional functioning.
Useful Outcomes Powell & Wagner takes time to complete a thorough assessment of all relevant factors before making recommendations. We collaborate with clients to interpret findings and to define specific recommendations. If follow-up consultation is desired, additional meetings can be scheduled; however, our primary goal is to provide direction that enables the client to move forward towards success.
